October 6, 1966: On this date Jim Palmer at the age of 20 became the youngest player to pitch a World Series shutout.

October 6, 1985: On this date pitcher Phil Niekro; at the age of 46; became the oldest pitcher to throw a shutout. It was also his 300th career victory.

October 2, 1920: On this date; the only tripleheader in the 20th century
was played. The Reds won 2 of 3 over the Pirates.

April 3, 1985: The Player's Association agreed with the owners to expand
the League Championship Series from best of five; to best of seven.
