The baseball milestones category has
quickly become one of the most
interesting and important categories
on the web site and the show. So
let's get into it.
Congratulations to future Hall of
Famer Ken Griffey Jr. who on June
27th, hit the 550th home run of his
fantastic career. Only ten players
in major league history have hit
more home runs than Griff.
Congratulations to Yankees pitcher
Mike Mussina and first baseman Jason
Giambi. Giambi recently hit his
150th home run as a Yankee and
Mussina picked up his 2500th career
strikeout. And on June 24th, the
Mets star shortstop Jose Reyes,
became only the 18th switch hitter
in major league history to hit for
the cycle. He is also the youngest
player ever to accomplish this. He
was only 23 years and 10 days old
when he did it. And congratulations
to Padres relief pitcher Trevor
Hoffman. His 51 career saves against
the Dodgers is the most by any
closer against any single team. One
of the most important reasons that
the Red Sox are doing so well this
year is their improved defense. And
on June 30th the Red Sox set a
milestone and a major league record
by playing their 17th consecutive
error-free game.
